Vedic Gargi

Vedic Gargi

Gargi Vacaknavi is a woman in the Vedic tradition Gargi, a prophetess and a philosopher is among the number of women, mentioned in the Hindu Ancient Vedic Texts. She was the daughter of the wise man, Sage Vachaknu.Gargi composed several hymns that question the origin of all existence. Gargi's inclination towards academics was very conspicuous from an early age. It once happened when King Janak of Videha organized a 'BRAHMAYAJNA'- a philosophic meet, Gargi's participation was highly acclaimed. She presented a series of questions on the soul of 'Atman' which silenced even the greatest sage of that time "YAJNAVALKYA".
Gargi has got mentions in the Upnishads. She is honored there as a great natural philosopher. Her question "The layer that is alone the sky and below the earth ,which described as being situated between the earth and sky and which is indicated as the symbol of the past, present and future, where is that situated?"- Lamboozled even the great Vedic men of letters.
Such was the charisma of this Vedic Woman ,which inspired the school to be named after her as Gargi's Girl School with the mission to enlighten and empower our girl student like the 'Vedic Gargi' who would take the world in their stride.
